Council on Social Justice: Disabilities Sub-Council
Mission Statement

The purpose of the Disabilities Sub-council, a sub-council of the Council on Social Justice at the Unitarian Society of Hartford, is to ensure the full inclusion of USH members and friends who have disabilities into the life of the USH community. Our goals for full inclusion will be accomplished by working in collaboration with the Councils on Community Within, Spiritual Life, Social Justice, and Administration, in the following ways:

-        By creating an atmosphere of openness and acceptance of those with physical, psychiatric, and cognitive disabilities.

-        By addressing and eliminating physical and attitudinal obstacles to full participation in USH programming and events.

-        By publicizing the accessibility of USH programs and events proactively .

-        By educating the congregation, including our children and our staff, on the social justice implications and impact of physical, psychiatric, and cognitive disabilities on our Society and in our culture.

-        By ensuring that the spiritual needs of USH members and friends with disabilities are recognized and addressed.

-        By adopting policies which endorse and ensure the full inclusion of members and friends with disabilities in a non-discriminatory manner.

-        By working with the UUA and Clara Barton District on the social justice policy issues of access, disability, education for congregations and clergy, and non-discrimination.
