Deepening our Connections through Culturally Relevant Storytelling
How since the beginning of time, storytelling has been a way to deepen our connections will be discussed, then experienced. A brief discussion will take place about how not knowing each others’ stories can result in our making assumptions, based on our own biases. Participants then will participate in a storytelling activity known at The Cultural Timeline. By sharing our ideas, passions and our history, we move from seeing someone as the ‘other’ to recognizing our commonalities. Yes, we have varied perspectives, but more important, we also have shared values. Stop in to learn more about storytelling and the power it provides to relationship-building in the increasingly divided “us-them” mentality so prevalent in this country today. This session was provided once before and was very well-received by participants. If you missed it, here’s another chance; if you attended the previous one, come again to hear other USH folks’ stories and share another one of yours.
