Spirit of Life:
In this time of such disinformation and smoke screens, may we have clear vision.
In this time of such waste and pollution, may we live in harmony with our environment.
In this time of rampant consumerism, may we remember that happiness can neither be bought nor owned.
In this time of discord and cacophony, may we hear the music of empathy.
In this time of division and conflict, may we recognize our common humanity.
In this time of polarization, may we know that science and religion are complementary.
In this time when it’s so easy to feel isolated, may we sense the comfort of community.
Finally, in a world filled with war, may we realize that nurturing inner peace is the path to world peace.
May it be so.
by Diane Cadrain
We got out of our warm beds this Sunday morning, leaving the security of our homes, taking the leap of faith that by coming here, we will find a way
not only to discover and show forth our better selves
--our kindness, generosity, compassion, and moral integrity—
but also to connect with the wider reality that is the source of our being.
Here, in this sanctuary, may we regain our sense of the sacred
underlying and pervading all that lives.
Oh Great Spirit, shaper of the wind and the waves,
make of each of us a straw
And into its hollow channel breathe the qualities that give force and grace to the natural world.
Help our actions to embody
the resilience of the first crocus that pushes through the snow
the energy of a windstorm
the invincibility of a chick pecking out of an egg
the grace of a wheeling gull
the tenderness of a morning glory
the majesty of the Atlantic
the warmth of beach sand in July.
And as we learn to find that goodness in ourselves,
give us the grace to see and honor
the better selves in those around us.
So may it be.
