Sunday - July 6th The Quantum, the Cosmos, and Doing the Right Thing - The new physics provides us with a bold awareness and fresh insights into our relationship to the universe and to each other. What is this remarkable new understanding? - Ron Mallett

About  the Speaker: Professor Ronald L. Mallett received his B.S., M.S. and Ph.D.degrees in  physics all from the Pennsylvania State University. Dr. Mallett worked for United Technologies 1973-5, and in 1975 joined the physics faculty at the University of Connecticut, in Storrs, where he has been a professor of theoretical physics ever since.  He has published numerous papers on black holes and cosmology in professional journals.  His recent research on time travel has been featured extensively in the media around the world, including New Scientist, the Village Voice, the Boston Globe, the Hartford Courant, Rolling Stone magazine, Pravda (Moscow), The Wall Street Journal, The Learning Channel, The Science Channel , The  History Channel as well as many radio stations worldwide.

Professor Mallett's recently published memoir "Time Traveler" is a compelling and human story of a man whose deep childhood trauma drove him on a quest to build a time machine. The book has been translated into Korean and Chinese and is to be made into a feature film by Spike Lee.

During coffee hour Ron Mallett will show a brief segment from the History Channel program, Unexplained Mysteries - Time Travel.  Following the video, he will facilitate a conversation about his sermon.

Your Thoughts On Use Of Listservs Solicited - Dear Fellow USH Members and Friends,

Recently several different listservs received an email from an external organization pushing a particular partisan agenda.

For ease of use, our listservs may be used by anybody on the planet to address various groups, though the software excludes self-subscription, self-requested listserv listings and similar commands. Usually listservs are used by those who are listed among the subscribers. By policy, the list of listservs, and members of listservs, are not available beyond webmaster, minister and office staff. This is because we do not care to receive email directed to the listservs from random individuals around the planet. Last year we renamed various listservs and increased protection on them because spammers had obtained their addresses. Various individuals do know what listservs they tend to use and the reasons therefore.

Members of particular listservs receive the list of subscribers in most cases, but not in all cases. Upon request to the webmaster, no name, phone number or email address will ever appear on the web. The grand list of USH-Enews subscribers is not distributed.

So folks, this is more or less where we are in a policy sense.

To these working "rules," we might add some additional recommendations to USH Members and Friends

1. Please do not turn over any listserv address to external organizations.

2. Please confine your communications to the specific listserv dealing with your subject, i.e., please avoid electronic copies to other listservs as this creates email bloat.

3. Generally, write a communication for a particular listserv. Please avoid sending a general communication to a bunch of other email addresses with two or three listservs tossed in for additional coverage (actually the listserv software tends to discourage this in some egregious cases).

4. (What might we add here?)

This article is a USH Blog. This Blog is now open for your comments and suggestions and will continue to be available for a week or so. Check back from time to time to read comments and perhaps add additional comments. - DCN Webmaster
