Piano Soloist Benjamin Dix received a Bachelors Degree in Instrumental Music Education from the Hartt College of Music where he graduated Magna Cum Laude, a Master’s Degree in Special Education from the University of Hartford and a Sixth Year Diploma in Educational Leadership at Southern Connecticut State University.  Ben has appeared as a soloist on Public Access Television locally and nationally, and has soloed at the Boston University Tanglewood Summer Institutes Young Artists Program, and at the University of Hawaii in Honolulu. Ben was also a soloist at the 2019 Connecticut Virtuosi Summer Music Institute & Festival.  He performed the entire Dantes “Inferno” with the Capitol Symphonic Wind Ensemble, and has premiered works for piano duo and works for piano and wind ensemble.  Ben was a finalist in the Itzhak Perlman National Instrumental Performance competition and he placed second in the Hartford Symphony Young Artists Competition.  He was also recognized by the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.  Ben has studied piano with Jane Bradley, Luiz de moura Castro, Margreet Francis, and Gary Steigerwalt at Hartt.  Ben has taught piano at Bethwood Suzuki School for four years and is also a former faculty member of the Neighborhood Music School.  Ben produced two CD’s of live solo performances, “The Artist in Contemplation of His Works” and his second double CD “Wayfaring”.  Ben served as an Assistant Principal at the Burns Academy of Latino Studies in Hartford, Connecticut as well as the Director of Student Personnel Services in the Salem School District. He served as an Assistant Director of Education at Adelbrook Behavioral and Developmental Services in Cromwell, Connecticut as well as a Coordinator of Secondary Special Education Services with the North Haven Public Schools. Ben currently is the Magnet School and Specialized Education Placement Coordinator with the East Haven Public Schools.
